Dear Parents

You are cordially invited to be

a partner in your child's education!

Dear Parents,

I am so excited to be teaching your child!  I know that first grade is going to be a great year.  There are so many fun things to do and learn in first grade, and we're off to a great start.  Here are some tips to help you and I as we both work with your child.

Stay Tuned: Ask your child what he or she is learning about in class.  The purple folder that comes home daily with your child is the best way for us to communicate.  My Weekly Newsletter, which comes home in the folder every Monday, will help you keep up with important happenings in our classroom.  Please check your child's behavior calendar (on the back of the folder) each night for his/her daily behavior color.  Please initial this calendar each night so I know you've seen it.  I will also send home progress reports, notes, or make phone calls if I feel that your child is not progressing as expected.

Help with Homework:  Check the purple folder each night for homework.  You should expect your child to have a phonics worksheet every night Monday-Thursday, a story to read on Tuesday, and Math homework 1-2 days per week.  Please send this homework back to me in the purple folder each morning.

Ask Questions: If you have any concerns or wonder why something is happening, please feel free to email me or send me a note in the purple folder at any time.  I welcome all concerns, ideas, and feedback that affect your child and our classroom.  If something is not working, I am more than willing to talk.  If something is working, I'd love to hear that it is going well!  My email address is katie_jones@cartersville.k12.ga.us

I look forward to working with you this year!

Sincerely,

Katie Jones
